First off, what is GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulation is an EU regulation in regards to data protection for all individuals within the European Union. It addresses the export of personal data outside the EU. The GDPR aims primarily to give control back to common people over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for big business by unifying the regulation within the EU.

What has it got to do with my business?

Simply put, this means that if your business acquires an email address by any means, you hold a responsibility to give users/customers a very direct opt in or opt out option. In a nutshell, you need consent to add people to a database of collected emails.

What can I do to update my current services?

Basically, it’s making you accountable for emails you send out to people. It is as easy as just adding a field onto your form asking your customer if they wish to receive further emails.
